PowerGrid inks MoU for development of Badrinath as a Spiritual Smart Hill Town

NEW DELHI, MARCH 18 : Aligning with the Prime Minister's vision to develop the ancient holy town of Badrinathas a Spiritual Smart Hill Town, Maharatna CPSE, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PowerGrid) signed an MoU with Shri KedarnathUtthanCharitable Trust on March 17, 2021.
The developmental projects worth about Rs 19.3 crores will include construction of 2.5 km long 10.5 m wide Road. It will prevent traffic jams and help in efficient traffic management. High points of this project will be façade enhancement on Public and Devasthanam Board Buildings, Battery operated public transport, installation of property signages, wayfinding signages, ambient lighting, tap-off water supply service and drainagethat will highlight the aesthetics of this Char Dham pilgrimage town and maintain its uniqueness.
The MoU was signed between Mr K. Sreekant,CMD PowerGrid and Mr DilipJawalkar,Secretary, Tourism & CEO, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, Govt. of Uttarakhand for developmental projects like construction of road and enhancement of public buildings façade on both sides of the road.
A tourist will come drawn to its beautiful past but we need to put efforts for creating systems to make them stay here. .
The pilgrimage town of Badrinath is located in a tough terrain, inaccessible by roads during October-March every year. Despite the problem, projectswill be completed in 3 years. It is estimated that the projects will beneﬁt around 15.6 Lakh pilgrims every year visiting Badrinath 2025 onwards.
PowerGrid, the 'Maharatna' CPSE of Govt. of India is one of the Largest Transmission Utilities in the World. It operates about 1,70,000 ckm. Transmission Linesand 252 Sub-stations with a transformation capacity of 4,28,000 MVA maintaining the system availability at over 99 per cent, at par with international utilities.
