In what can be termed as a landmark event, Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER) which is an autonomous R & D institute under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) entered into an overarching memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will provide a platform for collaborative research for both the organizations to work together to arrive at beneficial solutions for Communication Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) Systems related R&D activities in the country.
More significantly, collaboration between both the organizations is in line with the GoI's impetus for embracing the Make in India concept through indigenous design and development of CNS systems, with significant benefits in terms of leveraging human capital potential, fostering innovation, enhancing skill development and protecting intellectual property in the country.
In a simple and impressive Ceremony at AAI Corporate Headquarters, Mr Vineet Gulati Member (ANS), Airports Authority of India and Dr Sulabha Ranade, Director General, SAMEER signed the epoch-making agreement on the 3rd January, 2019 in the presence of Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman, AAI, SAMEER experts and senior officials of AAI.
While AAI as part of its ambitious ANS upgradation plans is setting up a state-of-the-art Civil Aviation Research Organisation at Hyderabad for finding indigenous solutions for addressing the challenges arising from exponential traffic growth, SAMEER is a research and development (R&D) organization pursuing research & development with the vision to achieve excellence in application oriented research in the areas of RADARs, RF & Microwave Electronics, Electromagnetics, Millimetre wave, EMI/EMC, Communications and Antennas. SAMEER has been involved in the development of many RF and Microwave based systems and products which are required by various government agencies like Defence, Space and Ministry of Earth Sciences since a long time.
The MoU, on the one hand will provide for transfer of know-how/skill by SAMEER experts in the areas of RF, MW and Antenna-related solutions to AAI domain experts, while on the other hand it will pave way for exposure for the SAMEER researchers to the challenging Aviation field.
Mr Vineet Gulati, Board Member (Air Navigation Services), AAI addressing the experts from both sides exuded optimism that the partnership between the Organisations will be a game-changer in Indian Aviation in the years to come.
Dr. Sulabha Ranade, Director General, SAMEER affirmed that the MOU would provide for synergy of capabilities of both the Organisations in their respective domains leading to mutually beneficial and lasting solutions in the ever growing field of Aviation.
This MoU is a huge step forward for both the Organizations to embark on joint research programs in the field of CNS that would benefit Aviation System as a whole in the foreseeable future, with focus on improving safety, security, efficiency, capacity of aircraft operations in the country.
